Before you fall for another magic cream or product that promises a skin care miracle, you need to learn a few basic tips.
Knowing these tips will help you understand what it takes (and what doesn’t) to have beautiful, strong skin.
We won’t get too scientific but here’s what you need to know:
Your skin has 3 layers:
- Epidermis: This is the outer layer and that protects you from the outside
- Dermis: This is the part that has flexibility, durability, and the overall look of your skin
- Subcutaneous tissue: This is the bottom layer and is mostly made out of fat, which helps make the skin appear healthy
While they are all part of your skin, they have different functions and jobs.
You skin is mostly made out of collagen, 80% of it approximately. The reason why your skin wears down as you get older, is because the ability of your skin to regenerate its cells declines, and in result, the outer layer, dermis, tends to appear worn down. The collagen fiber is what keeps the skin strong but this decreases as you age.
Now we’ve touched the surface on why your skin ages, we can now move on to how we can prevent and slow down the aging process.
How to slow down the aging process
Although the aging process for the skin appears to be a little overwhelming, the ways to slow down the process is actually quite simple.
Many people tend to fail as their habits take over and they think a simple cream will make all of their skin problems disappear.
This is far from the truth.
In fact, one of the worst thing you can do is buying the most expensive product for your skin, but yet keep up the very habits that promote the aging process.
You’ll learn how to prevent and what things you need to stop doing in order to make the best out of your skins’ health.
Your skin’s worst enemy is definitely the sun. If you want to speed up your aging process and look much older than you actually are, sun exposure is probably your best bet.
Sure tanning can be fun and a great way to look all shiny, but too much of it can make the production of metalloproteinase speed up much faster. Try to tan in moderation, take a short break for every 15 to 30 minutes of tanning or sun exposure.
Easier said than done right? You may have been smoking for many years and if you’ve ever tried quitting, it’s the hardest thing ever. But it’s the root cause of why you may look much older than you already are.
Do whatever you can to stop smoking or even just cut down. Smoking reduces the collegans produced by your skin so you’ll be more likely to have wrinkles.
Whatever face you make on a daily basis, it’ll tend to stay like that. So this is more of a reason to stop frowning on those sad days.
As your skin loses its elasticity, it’ll have more trouble returning to it’s normal state.
If you’ve ever been told to relax, you should probably take the advice for your skins sake.
Your bodies ability to heal and recover is mostly determined by how relaxed you are. If you’re constantly stressed, you’ll have trouble sleeping which is when your body is recovering. Your stress takes a toll on your entire body. So try to relax whenever you feel stressed.
How to treat your skin artificially
Health Form may not recommend some of the options on the list below, but we still want to present all of the options.
If you are looking for all natural methods, you should read further into this post.
There a few options when it comes to treating your skin.
The biggest mistake you can make though is thinking it is too late, and that your skin is already damaged. That is not true, and in fact, there have been many women who have reversed the look of their skin by at least 5 to 10 years.
This may be listed first but it doesn’t mean it’s the best.
It is a very expensive option and should not be the first thing you should consider. There are different surgery operations such as, (but not limited to):
- Cosmetic surgery
- Brow lift
However the risks are much higher than the benefits and we would seriousness urge our readers to stay away and try all of the all natural methods first and foremost.
This may look like the better option after surgery but injecting your skin with chemicals isn’t the best way to go. Injections usually contain botulinum toxin or fillers and they are meant for the deep facial lines one may have.
Lasers are meant to the damaged top layer of the skin, which usually results in younger, smoother skin. It’s used to treat smaller wrinkles like around the eyes.
Generally skin care products are a much better choice than injections and surgery. Any products containing any of these ingredients should be ideal:
- Vitamin C
- Polyenylphosphotidyl Choline
Top 3 natural methods for skin care
Note: I will touch on these points further in this post, but these are so important that they deserve their own box
You want to add a certain glow to your skin, but you might be relying too much on beauty products that contain various chemicals. However, the solution you’re looking for may be as simple as making simple lifestyle fixes.
If you want younger looking skin, then keep in mind that what you apply on the outside is just as important as what goes inside.
Exercise For Better Circulation
Your blood serves a very important function…it delivers essential nutrients to different areas of your body, including the skin.
This is why improving blood circulation can have a direct impact on how your skin looks. Better blood flow means better delivery of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients that make your skin healthy.
These and nutrients play an important role in slowing down the aging process. It is recommended to engage in exercise at least 20 minutes a day. Make sure that the intensity is high enough to make you break a sweat.
A Balanced Diet
We will go further into what is advised to eat for skin health in the next section, but why is it important?
In order to achieve beautiful skin, it’s recommended to consume small meals throughout the day. Make sure that each meal contains a good mix of protein, healthy fats and low glycemic carbohydrates.
Avoid foods containing high levels of sugar and refined grains. These can cause your blood glucose and insulin levels to shoot through the roof.
Use Natural Topical Treatments
Instead of going for beauty products that contain harsh chemicals, make the switch to natural topical treatments.
Some of the best ingredients to look for include:
- Royal jelly
- Aloe vera
Also make it a habit to read product labels.
This enables you to determine whether a specific product suits your skin type and skin condition.
Also, remember to practice the basics of a good skin care regimen including washing your face twice at most daily, exfoliating once a week and moisturizing your skin every day.
What diet is best for healthy skin?
Honestly, there is no better diet than what we had before factories and processed foods were available. I’m not saying you should go and live in a cave only to eat bugs and leaves. But surely Mc Donalds isn’t going to solve your skin problems.
Your diet should have a balance of whole foods.
Try to have more fresh foods in your diet. It’s easier said than done but that’s why I’ve provided what foods you should have in your diet.
What foods are good for my skin?
Not all fats are created equal, and hopefully you’ve learned that long ago. Olive oil contains powerful antioxidants like polyphenols and it helps keep your skin strong and healthy.
It also has healthy fats like monounsaturated fats which also prevent heart disease and cancer.
With all of the omega 3 fats in fish, it has more than enough power to prevent cholesterol problems.
It also helps keeps the skin young and smooth looking.
While sugar foods aren’t the best choice for beautiful skin, the cocoa in chocolate is what keeps your skin strong and soft.
Opt for dark chocolate or plain cocoa so it doesn’t contain any sugar or artificial ingredients. Look for chocolate that has at least 70% cocoa.
The protein in yoghurt assists the skin by keeping it firmer and young looking.
Look for Greek yoghurt as it has more protein than the regular kind.
Fight free radicals!
Sounds like a rebel for the good cause right? Well it is, because polyphenols constantly fight off free radicals, promotes blood flow, which keeps the skin healthy.
Just one glass every day is enough to notice benefits. You may also want to try cranberry juice to get a similar effect.
Interesting figures about the skincare industry
What foods, ingredients or methods to avoid to keep your skin looking young
Consuming too much of anything can be bad for your health.
But there are some foods that are just plain out hit the list of “do not touch” as they are terrible for your skin.
Before you curse me, hear me out.
Processed refined sugar is the worst for your skin.
It has no value for your health and it doesn’t have any benefits. Having a sweet tooth will only bring more damage to your skin than good. It damages collagen and promotes sagging skin.
Cut down on sugar as you may be addicted if you already have a steady flow of it on a daily basis.
We’re not supposed to avoid salt all together, but too much of it can dehydrate your skin.
An excess of it can also increase the risk of kidney disease which is responsible for clearing our waste and blood. Keep a low moderation intake of sodium, as a general rule, aim for 5 grams of it each day.
Eating too fast
This isn’t a food but it certainly has to do with the way you eat your food.
If you eat in a stressful way, you’ll produce a stress hormone which makes it much harder to absorb the nutrients fully. And this also leads to much bigger problems such as obesity and many diseases.
Here is one of the biggest causes of heart disease and many skin problems.
This kind of fat is easy to find in snacks and most junk food. This is one of the worst fats and can accelerate the rate of which your skin ages.
Exercise and fitness habits for skin care
It is all too common to see people reach for the “magic cream” instead of the option of just exercising.
Exercise is one of the best ways to keep the body healthy and functioning at its best. It’s probably the best way to staying young and keeping the body fresh.
Don’t just keep your exercising options to jogging and walking, though.
Keeping a well-balanced exercise routine means trying new things and challenging your body at every chance you get. Staying in your comfort zone will only take you so far.
Follow these tips if you want to keep your skin young and your body healthy.
This may be against everything you believe, but interval training is much more effective at keeping your skin strong and healthy.
It is one of my favorite ways to explain for those who are looking for the best anti-aging skin care.
A long duration of exercise only puts stress on your body and won’t do much for your skin. Try shorter but more intense exercise by upping the level each workout.
Start from square one
If you’re new to exercise, you need to start at where you’re comfortable at.
You may feel intimidated when you see someone who can lift much harder and longer than you, but they didn’t just start working yesterday.
They’ve been training for years to get at that level. You need to challenge yourself and beat your own previous records.
All forms of exercise are beneficial
There is no doubt in my mind that you’ve been told “oh walking is the best because…” Or “this is the best way to get fit”.
There really is no best way to anything; there is only the best way for yourself. If you’ve never done yoga before, you’ll find it challenging and you’ll make some gain from the benefits of it almost overnight.
But if you’ve been walking every day, you’ll only notice the benefits from when you first started and it won’t be the “Best thing” for you anymore as you’ve gotten used to it. So be open to new exercise forms.

Home remedies for a youthful appearance
OK, so this is what you are really looking for, right?!
Despite the belief that skin care products and synthetic chemicals are the only way to treat skin and slow down the aging process, there has been a growing trend of home remedies and most of them have been very successful.
I know we’ve already mentioned the important foods and what to avoid when it comes to your diet, but the fact that you are what you eat is very important to know.
You may have heard this before but I’ll tell you anyway:
“If you eat from the dollar menu, how do you expect to look like a million bucks?”
Go for organically grown foods and avoid fast foods. You will notice a huge difference as you make the change. I promise you that!
Honey face mask
Gently warm raw honey by rubbing your fingertips together and spread it on your face.
After 5 to 10 minutes of leaving it on your skin, take it off by using warm water. This will help your skin get very soft and beautiful.
Apple Cider Shampoo
Grab a little bit of organic apple cider vinegar mixed with water and a cotton bud.
Use the bud to spread the cider over your face to get a nice tone going. Test it on a small area on your skin before using it all over your face to make sure you don’t get a reaction though.
Anything that is milk based has an amazing effect on your skin as it removes redness and irritation from it.
Mix a tablespoon of milk with one tablespoon of honey, and then apply it on your face. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes before taking it off. This helps with your skins complexion if you do it on a daily basis.
The top mistakes you can make for your skins’ health
Despite the seriousness of these mistakes, it is quite common to find them among people. You should try to avoid making these or if you already are, fix them as soon as you can.
If you’re tired all the time, your body is most likely going through a hectic process where it tries to recover.
It can’t recover if it doesn’t rest.
You can also develop dark circles and bags under your eyes if you keep having nights where you don’t rest properly.
No fats in your diet
Contrary to belief, there are a few fats that are absolutely necessary for your diet.
Removing these diets will result in your skins health to suffer. It is required for optimal skin health and regeneration as fats promote cell growth.
Too much sugar
We’ve all got the sweet tooth; you’re not the only one. But overdoing it will damage collegans which is needed to slow down the aging process.
Coffee instead of tea
Coffee contains caffeine, and you may be getting too much of it if you’re always drinking it.
Caffeine puts stress on our bodies and it can dehydrate our skin. Go for tea, especially green tea as it has anti-oxidants that fight free-radicals.
Top 3 skin care rules to remember
- Wear sunscreen – and not just at the beach. You’re always exposed to the sun, protect yourself by using sunscreen so you don’t get sunburn.
- Don’t smoke – it may be hard quitting, but you must find a way to do so. Smoking can accelerate your skins aging process by many years.
- Eat right – you are what you eat. Avoid eating process foods and go for whole foods that don’t need to be processed.
It’s never too late to slow down your skins aging process.
